Welcome to I_AM Medical Mentoring
A mentoring programme supporting Y13 students applying for medicine from London state secondary schools.
About the programme...
Being a doctor involves talking to and caring for the full range of the population. However, many parts of the population are poorly represented in the medical workforce. Preparing for and applying to medical school is complicated and highly competitive. More advantaged schools, students and families will be more familiar with the process and are more likely to be successful in their application.

At I_AM, we have gathered together a group of doctors keen to redress this balance. In particular, we focus on the medical school interview. These interviews will often be a particularly unfamiliar element of the application process for which the school may struggle to assist. Yet performance at interview will strongly influence the offer of a place. We work weekly in small groups with Y13 applicants in the 3 months leading up to the interviews, exploring relevant medical content and undertaking practice interviews. We have been running for 3 years and currently have 16 doctors working with >150 students from 18 state schools across central London.
